This is the BR Standard Crewe Plate as fitted to BR designed and BR Crewe built locomotives starting with the Brittanias and carrying on right through to the 60s on diesel shunters! This incorporates the chosen BR type face issued to all workshops for BR standard locomotives. What is interesting here is that early examples from Brittania's etc are very thin and I have certainly seen many broken or repaired examples. Later example such as my plate from 1956 from 92070 are considerably thicker so the works do appear to have appreciated the problem. There is also some size variation which leads me to believe there are multiple patterns of this design. These plates have been cast in both Iron and Steel. interestingly there is certainly another slightly different pattern as fitted to the Clans ... see Built 1951 Crewe.
