The plate is identical to the LMS war and post war era Horwich plates except that the LMS letters have changed in style and it is much smaller!! Bearing in mind that the other 1948 plates have no LMS it has been suggested there was some confusion as quite what to do under the new BR regime in relation to plating the locomotives, resulting in another 1948 pattern being created onto which the LMS was re-instated, the LMS letters used are not Burn Co. The examples of this seen were both fine ex loco and were made of cast iron.

Size in inches- 9 & 7/8th by 5 & 3/16ths (hole centres 8 & 1/2),
Pattern Rarity- Not Common (2 seen)
Special Features- Burn Co Style lettering, LMS letters non Burn Co, MR style numbers.
